CREM Co Labs: 2024 Highlights and Accomplishments

2024 was a landmark year at CREM Co Labs, marked by transformative advancements across our service portfolio and laboratory capabilities. We are pleased to share these milestones with our valued clients, collaborators, and partners.

In addition to performing dozens of OECD Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) studies throughout the year, we have further solidified our position as an industry leader in scientific rigor and innovation.

Successful SCC Audit for OECD GLP Renewal

We passed the Standards Council of Canada (SCC) audit, renewing our certification under OECD GLP. This accomplishment reaffirms our unwavering commitment to reliable, high-quality testing services and upholds the highest international standards.

ISO 17025ISO/IEC 17025 Accreditation for Food Testing

CREM Co Labs received ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation for food testing, ensuring global recognition of our technical competence and impartiality. This milestone enhances our offerings to the food industry, providing clients with unrivaled assurance in our analytical precision.

Advancing Air Sanitizer and Purifier Testing Protocols

In 2024, we developed and finalized cutting-edge protocols to test air sanitizers and purifiers against a range of mammalian viruses, including Rhinovirus, Coronavirus, FCV, murine norovirus, and vaccinia virus. We also submitted a scientific paper detailing this groundbreaking protocol, paving the way for improved air decontamination standards and public health outcomes.

Publishing Landmark Papers on Air Sanitizers

We published two influential papers documenting the first air sanitizer ever registered with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA):

  • Bacterial Efficacy Paper: Led to the registration of the first air sanitizer.
  • Bacteriophage Study: Facilitated the U.S. EPA’s first virucidal claim for an air sanitizer, confirming efficacy against airborne enveloped viruses, including Influenza, Coronaviruses, and Pneumoviruses.

These publications represent significant strides in airborne infection control and public health safeguards.

Surface Disinfectant Testing Methods Publication

In 2024, we published a landmark review paper, “Methods to assess environmental surface disinfectants against viruses: the quest and recommendations for a globally harmonized approach to microbicide testing.” This work critiques existing testing disparities, proposes a standardized and harmonized methodology, and emphasizes reproducibility, field relevance, and improved global preparedness against viral threats. By advocating for consistent surrogate viruses, uniform soil loads, and precise viability assays, the paper sets a new benchmark for harmonized, internationally recognized testing protocols.

Zebrafish Model for ALS Drug Testing

Building upon our validated disease models for Intracerebral Hemorrhage (ICH), Parkinson’s disease, Epilepsy, Anxiety, and Stress, we developed a novel zebrafish model in 2024 to test potential therapeutics for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). This innovative platform was successfully utilized to evaluate the efficacy of new drug formulations, representing a promising step forward in ALS research.

Expanding the Chemical Analysis Lab

CREM Co’s chemical analysis lab was initially established for chemical characterization and disinfectant stability tests. We now support a broad range of active ingredients and can perform real-time and accelerated stability tests, as well as issue Certificates of Analysis (COA) under OECD GLP. With the addition of High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) and Liquid Chromatography–Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS) capabilities, we are expanding our testing services to include food, cosmetic, and NHP products under ISO/IEC 17025.

Pioneering Disinfectant Testing for Dry Biofilms

We made significant progress in crafting a quantitative protocol for evaluating disinfectants and sanitizers against dry biofilms—an important, often-overlooked aspect of microbiological testing. This work strengthens our leadership in advancing disinfectant efficacy standards.

Looking Ahead
As we close out 2024, CREM Co Labs is proud of the progress made in strengthening our testing capabilities, scientific influence, and industry reach. We remain steadfast in our dedication to innovation, excellence, and partnership, and look forward to continuing this momentum into 2025 and beyond.
